Amaruk Group of Companies is proud to apply to all its Wilderness Experiences the following Ecotourism practices, and we are kindly asking our guests to give us their full cooperation:

Minimizing our Impact
  • Avoiding the use of open fires, favouring stoves for all cooking needs.
  • Minimizing the use of dishes and kitchen utensils.
  • Washing dishes and oneself away from waterways and water bodies.
  • Properly disposing of human and domestic animal wastes, away from trails, camp sites, waterways and water bodies.
  • Only using designated latrines or toilets.
  • Packing all garbage to be later disposed in designated bins.
  • Only use unscented and biodegradable cosmestics to minimize conflicts with wildlife and contamination of waterways and water bodies.
  • Avoiding wildlife harassment by always staying at a safe distance. If the wildlife is aware of our presence, we are too close.
  • Staying on trails whenever possible, walking behind each other, and avoiding walking on sensitive areas.
  • Using light shoes or sandals when walking off-trail.
  • Using tents with a lower foot print.
  • Avoiding cutting flowers, vegetations or branches.
  • Leaving all natural, cultural and archaeological artefacts undisturbed.
  • Keeping groups small and avoiding visiting the same area too often.
  • Keeping domestic animals under physical restraint at all times, preventing them from harassing wildlife and, when applicable, properly disposing of their feces.
Building environmental and cultural awareness and respect
  • Understanding and respecting the wildlife, its habitat and the environment.
  • Understanding and respecting the First Nations' right to the enjoyment of their land.
  • Understanding and respecting the cultural value and meaning of an area.
  • Leaving untouched and undisturbed any cultural or archaeological artefacts.
  • Educating guests about the environmental, geological, archaeological and cultural aspects of a given area.
Providing positive experience for both visitors and hosts
  • Striving to provide clients with the Ultimate Wilderness Experience.
  • Not infringing on the right of others, especially local people, First Nations and other operators, to enjoy the land and their own experience.
Providing direct financial benefits for conservation
  • 50% of profits realized through the sale of Amaruk Group of Companies photos, post cards, posters and related materials is dedicated to the protection of wildlife and the environment. We kindly ask our guests to therefore consider their options when buying souvenirs.
  • We are also dedicating a percentage of our resources and revenue to the protection and conservation of wildlife and the environment, through AMARUK ® Foundation.
Providing financial benefits and empowerment for local people
  • Obtaining our supplies and equipment from local dealers.
  • Participating in the local economy by consumming locally.
  • Hiring local people whenever possible.
