Overview
This multi-disciplinary comprehensive program is designed by the Professional Association of Wilderness Guides and Instructors (PAWGI), and it is geared towards individuals wishing to pursue a career as Wilderness Guides in the growing adventure tourism field.
Certified Wilderness Guides (CWG) may organize and conduct day and multi-day land expeditions in any area suitable for their skill and experience level, excluding activities involving travel on glaciers or permanent snow, climbing, or the use of hands and body for balance.

Field Course
The program is delivered over the course of two weeks and combines 40 hours of formal instruction together with practical assignments and an actual expedition.
Subjects covered include
Regulations,
Nature Interpretation,
Cultural Interpretation,
Meteorology,
Risk & Emergency Management,
Expeditionary & Outdoor Leadership,
Sustainability & Conservation and
Wilderness Survival.
Certification
Certification is achieved with an overall 80% mark on the Wilderness Guide Practical Assessment (WGPA), conducted over the course of a week immediately following your course.
Price
The complete Wilderness Guide Certification Program costs $2,990 (Tuition Fees, practical assignments, and expedition at $1,995 + WGPA at $995).
Note: Candidates who do not hold a current Certified Assistant Guide (CAG) Certification must add $744 to the above cost to first complete the Certified Assistant Guide (CAG) online course and exam.
Dates & Locations
Field courses are typically conducted in early Fall, in various locations in British Columbia and Yukon.
